The purpose of this article is to analyze the relationship between faith and reason in St. Anselm, with reference to the a priori argument for the existence of God presented by the Benedictine monk in the Proslogium. The text is structured around four main questions, namely the starting point of the anselmian argument as presented at the beginning of the mentioned text, the exposition of the argument itself, the first criticism presented by Gaunilo and Anselm's answer to the objections presented by the monk of Marmoutiers.
