Abstract: The objective of the work is to present the review of the book “The cruel pedagogy of the virus”, by the sociologist Boaventura de Sousa Santos, published in 2020 at the juncture of Covid-19. A descriptive summary of the chapters and an analysis of the potential knowledge that the pandemic provided to face the political, cultural and ideological quarantine of capitalism was carried out. Faced with these questions, the relevance of the work for research in Human Sciences was verified, especially for the understanding of the crises that were perpetuated for many decades and worsened in the pandemic context.
